The Capital’s Delectable Dining Room
Giuseppe Ciampini inaugurated his first business, the Bar Tre Scalini, in the splendid Piazza Navona in 1943. Giuseppe’s culinary and pastry art was an immediate success, also thanks to his famous Truffle ice cream.
In 1958, thanks to his father’s success, Angelo opened a second cafe in Via Frattina, this time with the name Ciampini on the sign.
Surrounded by the most famous haute couture brands in the world, the cafe quickly became a meeting place for the Roman Dolce Vita. Angelo’s children, Giuseppe, Maura, and Andrea, took over the business, and in 1989 they moved the cafe to its current location in Piazza San Lorenzo in Lucina; an outdoor living room in the heart of Rome, where customers can taste Ciampini’s culinary delights while sitting at one of the tables in front of the Basilica.
In 1997, the three brothers also inaugurated the Ciampini Bistrot in Via della Fontanella Borghese, offering their customers the opportunity to enjoy an exquisite pizza in the center of Rome.
In 2016, Angelo and Federico, the family’s fourth generation, created the Ciampini Lab, a space dedicated entirely to ice cream. In keeping with family tradition, they continue to offer a 100% artisanal product, made entirely with natural, preservative-free raw ingredients. They do, however, jealously preserve the uniqueness of their grandfather's recipes. Attentive to everyone’s needs, they have also patented an easily digestible ice cream made with lactase, an enzyme naturally produced by babies while they’re being breast-fed.
Using their professionalism and expertise, the Ciampini family began distributing their renowned ice cream to various bars and restaurants. Their goal is to introduce their brand to the rest of Italy and the entire world, so that everyone, however far away, can enjoy a small taste of Rome.
