Ah, non credea mirarti
sì presto estinto, o fiore
passasti al par d'amore
che un giorno sol durò
(Amina, Act II)
The Teatro dell'Opera di Roma hosts one of Vincenzo Bellini's best-known and most acclaimed operas, presented in a striking new production with the celebrated American soprano Lisette Oropesa in the role of Amina.
The great soprano of Cuban origin returns to Rome after her unforgettable performance, precisely at the Costanzi, in the film-opera La Traviata directed by Mario Martone. Lisette Oropesa, who interprets La Sonnambula for the first time in her career, sees other famous bel canto artists at her side, such as John Osborn, Roberto Tagliavini, and Monica Bacelli.
Maestro Francesco Lanzillotta conducts the orchestra. The new production is by French duo Jean-Philippe Clarac and Olivier Deloeuil, 'Le Lab,' who debut in Italy.
The melodrama in two acts to a libretto by Felice Romani had its first performance at the Teatro Carcano in Milan on 6 March 1831; it debuted at the Teatro Costanzi on 14 May 1881.
