On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the roundup of the Ghetto of Rome, which took place on 16 October 1943, the Municipality of Rome XI, with the municipalities of Rome I, Rome VIII and Rome XII, promotes the Relay of Memory, a bicycle route through the most important places of historical memory and of the Anti-Fascist Resistance. In fact, on that fateful date, the tragedy occurred in which more than a thousand people were forcibly taken away from the ghetto and deported to the Auschwitz extermination camp. In fact, only sixteen returned alive, fifteen men and one woman, Settimia Spizzichino.
And it is exactly from the bridge dedicated to her, in the Garbatella district, that, on Sunday the 15 of October that the relay starts at around 3.00 pm, along via del Gazometro, via del Porto Fluviale, via di Riva Ostiense, Ponte della Scienza, Lungotevere di Pietra Papa, viale Marconi, via Quirino Majorana, Piazza Donna Olimpia, Villa Pamphilj (Theatre), Piazza R.Pilo, via Dandolo, via Mameli, Piazza Sonnino, ending in Largo XVI Ottobre at the Jewish quarter around 7pm, where the event is held final with the musical interlude and readings by the Circolo Gianni Bosio and the screenings of the videos created with the schools for the “Il civico Giusto” project.
