Eight years after its closure for redevelopment and safety works, the Planetarium reopens to the public on 22 April. Thanks to the new cutting-edge technology that focuses on digital, immersive experiences and events for audiences of all ages, you can discover new ways of "looking" at the universe.
Housed in the Museum of Roman Civilization, the new Planetarium displays the "Sky Explorer", which replaces the old optical projector, previously supported by a single digital channel projected onto windows. The new software adds the dimension of depth, allowing you to "enter" and navigate the sky in any direction of space and time.
The new digital Planetarium is characterized by an articulated system of high contrast video projectors with 4K resolution, able to highlight with extreme realism the surface of Earth, Moon, Mars, and the brightest stars, between galaxies and nebulae. The current database stores a large amount of data based on astronomical news and follows the discoveries of the international scientific community.
You will be able to discover the secrets of space with the new astronomical shows that, through an ad hoc audio system, allow you to interact with the "sky". You can admire the Earth from afar, flying over planets, nebulae and galaxies, re-experiencing the fundamental events of space exploration and the most recent astronomy.
The astronomer's live narration and the dome - a hemispherical screen of 300 square meters and 14 meters in diameter - offer absolute involvement, which combined with the 98 comfortable armchairs, reclined and arranged in a circular layout, enhance the experience of the immersive "journey".
