The lampposts light intensity increases a bit for a few seconds before returning to its regular power: “Ai nati oggi”, a public installation signed by Alberto Garruti hosted in Piazza del Popolo, one of the most elegant and popular Roman squares, is a delicate and poetic celebration of life as well as a work of art entering the urban landscape and creating total engagement and sharing from the audience.
The lampposts are connected with the maternity ward of the Policlinico Agostino Gemelli: every time the light pulses it means a baby is born. To help passers-by to fully understand the ambitious project and invite them to feel part of it, at every pedestrian entrance/exit route of the Piazza an iron plate is positioned with the caption’s high-relief.
Promoted by MAXXI in collaboration with Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS, Acea and Areti, the project’s first launch in Rome dates back to 2000,: at the time newborns were celebrated by the lampposts in via della Conciliazione.
