Ponte Garibaldi

The bridge links the districts Regola and Trastevere and is named after Garibaldi. It was built in 1888 in memory of the history of Garibaldi’s wars and victories in the two worlds. Is the first bridge built in Rome after the unity of Italy and was built by architect Vescovali (1884 -1888). At the time it was the third in width (121 mt x 23 mt) in the world ranking: the first two were two bridges of Paris. Between 1953 and 1956 it has been carefully restored by architect Giulio Krall and the two original metallic bays have been enlarged e rebuilt in reinforced concrete. Its structure is now formed by two diminished arches e from its parapet it is possible to admire the Tiber island. On the left riverside, near the bridge, there was once the Renella beach, with the typical bathhouses.
