The Foreign Academies and Cultural Institutes Festival in Rome at the MACRO Museum, entitled Sublime cliché, curated by Saverio Verini, is in its third edition. Through a selection of scholarship holders currently in residence and others who have already stayed in Rome, the project is divided into an exhibition and a program of live events - performances, concerts, presentations - encouraging multidisciplinary crossovers also between the "residents" of the various institutions.
The presence of foreign Academies and Cultural Institutes represents a unique feature of the cultural scene in Rome; in fact, these institutions, through a program of residencies, bring visual artists, writers, composers, architects, choreographers, designers, historians and researchers in the most diverse fields to the city every year; a community that passes through Rome, a meeting place and crossroads of peoples par excellence, creating a bond with its history and its places, reinterpreting them and intertwining human and cultural relationships that are reflected in their artistic production.
The Festival intends to celebrate this bond, underlining the inexhaustible source of inspiration that the city represents for the scholarship holders, as well as the international vocation that in some way renews the legacy of the Grand Tour, which for centuries has chosen the Capital as a fundamental place for the completion of the cultural education of generations of foreign intellectuals.
A fundamental part of the exhibition itinerary is also represented by the photographic commission entrusted to Giovanna Silva, a former scholarship holder of the American Academy, who has created “portraits” of the various foreign academies and cultural institutes; through Silva’s photographs, the places and venues that host the academies enter in an ideal way into the space of the exhibition, thus bringing together in a single environment the various architectures scattered throughout the Capital.
Finally, we recall that the exhibition project is accompanied by a multidisciplinary live program hosted in the spaces of the MACRO, by a network of events hosted by the Academies and Cultural Institutes and by a catalogue that retraces the entire project through critical contributions by Edoardo Albinati and Michele Di Monte, together with images of the installation.
The Festival of Foreign Academies and Cultural Institutes in Rome — Sublime cliché is promoted by the Department of Culture of Rome Capital and Azienda Speciale Palaexpo, and organized by Azienda Speciale Palaexpo with the collaboration of the Foreign Academies and Cultural Institutes in Rome.
