Romantics & Co.

The two evenings Romantics & Co. by and with Valerio Magrelli at the Baths of Caracalla, are part of the second prose proposal - after Vissi d'arte, vissi d'amore. Waiting for Giacomo Puccini by Massimiliano Finazzer Flory – of the “Off” programming of the Caracalla Festival 2024. Magrelli was already the protagonist, last year, of a commented reading of Ovid's Metamorphoses.

The theme of the two events is the evolution of Romanticism from the nineteenth century until today: this artistic movement, in fact, with all its revolutionary potential, represented a real transformation of sensitivity and thought in the history of the West, which concerned poetry , philosophy, music, painting and even medical science: just think, for example, that the origin of current homeopathy has its roots in that era. Magrelli therefore tries to reconstruct Romanticism from its origins to its influence on the great historical avant-gardes such as Futurism, Dada and Modern Surrealism.

The meeting is divided into two appointments, July 17th (Part I - The origins) and July 20th (Part II - Towards the avant-garde).
