The villa is located in Ostia, between the park of Castel Fusano and the estate of Castel Porziano. The archaeological complex was discovered in 1713 and identified with the villa of Pliny the Younger (61-114 AD).
It is a typical example of a large maritime residence from the Julio-Claudian age, surrounded by a wall open to the sea where the main entrance was.
The best preserved part of the villa has a large quadrangular portico overlooked by different rooms and to the south of which there are baths with a black and white mosaic floor depicting Neptune armed with a trident on a chariot pulled by two seahorses, from II AD.
In addition, near the villa, there are the remains of a stretch of the Via Severiana, a coastal road that led from the city of Porto to Terracina, built by the emperor Septimius Severus in the third century AD.
