Also this month, state- and city-run museums, archaeological parks and cultural sites guarantee free access to all visitors on the first Sunday of the month, 7 May. For state-run museums, the Ministry of Culture recommends consulting the detail sheets on the official website before planning your visit. Some venues can be visited by reservation only, and for the Colosseum Archaeological Park, admission tickets can only be picked up at the Arco di Tito ticket office, with no possibility of advance reservation.
As for the municipal museum system, the open museums are as follows: Musei Capitolini, Mercati di Traiano - Museo dei Fori Imperiali, Museo dell’Ara Pacis, Centrale Montemartini, Museo di Roma, Museo di Roma in Trastevere, Galleria d’Arte Moderna, Musei di Villa Torlonia, Serra Moresca di Villa Torlonia, Museo Civico di Zoologia, Museo di Scultura Antica Giovanni Barracco, Museo Carlo Bilotti - Aranciera di Villa Borghese, Museo Napoleonico, Museo Pietro Canonica a Villa Borghese, Museo della Repubblica Romana e della memoria garibaldina, Museo di Casal de’ Pazzi, Museo delle Mura, Villa di Massenzio. Open, but with regular tickets, are instead Circo Maximo Experience, the augmented and virtual reality tour of Circus Maximus, and the Planetario.
In addition to the permanent collections, temporary exhibitions can also be visited, starting with VRBS ROMA, at the Capitoline Museums, opened on the occasion of the 2776th Christmas of Rome celebrations, which presents to the public for the first time a gilded glass depicting the goddess Rome, personification of the city according to widespread iconography.
