Roma Capitale has prepared the 2023 mobility plan for the holidays up to 7 January.
The mobility plan for the 2023-2024 Christmas and New Year holidays includes enhanced public transport, two free shuttles from Termini and Piazzale dei Partigiani towards the centre, three days of complete free transport, an increase in the sharing offer with dedicated promotions, discounts of 50% on taxi fares and 100% for people with disabilities, but above all the return to full capacity of Metro A, which no longer closes at 9pm but returns to its usual opening hours, including in the evening. There will also be a strengthening and extension of the ZTL timetables to improve the circulation of buses and public transport. These are the guidelines of the Campidoglio Christmas Mobility Plan with the aim of facilitating the use of public transport during the holiday period.
Here is what the mobility plan provides in detail:
Historic Center ZTL and Tridente ZTL
The opening hours of the Centro Storico and Tridente (A1) ZTLs are expected to be extended from 6.30 to 20.00, also on Saturdays and holidays. The opening times of the daytime Trastevere ZTL and all the ZTL at night.
Free buses to the centre
The special lines Free 1 and Free 2 and line 100 are free up to 7 January
- Free 1: Via E. De Nicola (Termini station – Repubblica (MA) – Via Nazionale – Via Milano – Tunnel Umberto I – Via del Tritone - L.go Chigi. Every day - including holidays - from 9am to 9pm.
Exchange - “Piastra Termini” FS car park (1st hour free), entrance from via Marsala 53.
- Free 2: Partisans – Piramide (MB) – Via Marmorata – Bocca della Verità – Piazza Venezia – Via del Corso - L.go Chigi. Every day - including holidays - from 9am to 9pm.
Exchange - Atac Partigiani car park (rate €0.80/hour - €5/day), entrance from Piazzale dei Partigiani.
- Line 100: P.ta Pinciana - via Veneto - Tritone - p.zza Cavour - L.go Chigi and return to P.ta Pinciana. Every day - including holidays - from 9am to 8pm.
Strengthening of public transport
Surface lines
The public transport offer to the historic centre, shopping centres, places of worship and cultural attractions is increasing in the time slot 10.30 - 20.30 for the following lines:
30 December: 075, 46, 53, 60, 70, 74, 85, 160, 170, 301, 492, 706, 714, 916 and 990
31 December, Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 January 2024: 075, 38, 44, 46, 53, 60, 70, 74, 80, 85, 160, 170, 301, 492, 706, 714, 916, 990 and 913.
Subway lines
In the period 8 December - 7 January, Metro A remains open for the entire duration of the service: closing at 9pm from Sunday to Thursday is suspended. Furthermore - on 30 and 31 December and 6 and 7 January - the service is intensified with 48 additional trips compared to the normal service. On Metro C an extra train is guaranteed from mid-day to the end of service.

January 1st
the nMA, nMB, nMB1, nMC and nME lines are active between 2.30 and 8.00
Metro and surface lines active from 8.00am, including line 100
Rome-Civita Castellana-Viterbo railways and Metromare railway: from approximately 8.00am to the end of service at 11.30pm
Termini-Centocelle railway: direction Centocelle 8.30 - 23.00, direction Termini 8.03 - 22.33.
On 31 December 2023 and 1 January 2024, sporting events and events will take place in the centre of Rome during which the bus network is modified. The changes, as a result of the pedestrianization of Via dei Fori Imperiali and the Circo Massimo area, are valid from 0.01 am on December 30th to midnight on January 1st 2024. Here are the events and changes to the service:
-pedestrianization of via dei Fori Imperiali and the Porta Portese area
-the We Run Rome sporting event which takes place between the Caracalla's Baths and Villa Borghese
-the concert at the Circus Maximus
The changes concern the lines C3-H-FREE1-FREE2-H-075-3-30-44-46-51-52-53-60-61-62-63-64-70-71-75-80-81 -83-85-87-89-100-117-118-120F-150F-160-170-190-490-492-495-590-628-715-716-781-916-NMB
- at the disposal of the Authorities, the Circo Massimo and Colosseo stations of metro B could be closed. In this case the Piramide and Cavour stations can be used.
Promotions for moving around in sharing
In addition to the promotions offered by the operators of e-bike, scooter and car sharing services that have joined the Christmas Plan (Bird, Cooltra, Dott, Drivalia, Lime, Enjoy, ShareNow), this year too CarSharing Roma offers:
- for those who register up to 7 January 2024, with an individual or family contract: €20.00 bonus on future rentals
- for those who are already CarSharing Roma customers (individual or family), the long rental promotion is active (€40.00/day + €0.15/Km).
For Metrebus annual season ticket holders, the e-bike and scooter sharing service is free.
Travel Vouchers for Taxi and NCC
Until 31 December it is once again possible to use Roman Travel Vouchers for taxi and NCC trips at a discounted rate.
FOR WHOM: all citizens over 18
HOW MUCH: 50% discount for a maximum of €20 per ride - 100% discount for people with disabilities up to a maximum of €40 per ride
PLAFOND: maximum 2 travel vouchers/day for a maximum of €400 in total during the validity period of the promotion
HOW: payment by credit card or debit card after registration (with SPID, CIE or CNS) on couponsviaggioroma.romamobilita.it
