One of the architectural jewels of the Complex of Sant'Ivo alla Sapienza, the corridor by Francesco Borromini connecting the Palace with Piazza Sant'Eustachio, was inaugurated at the end of the first phase of the project curated by the Special Superintendence of Rome. It saw the securing and restoration of the Palazzo della Sapienza, the seat of the Senate of the Republic, of the State Archive of Rome, and the rector of Sant'Ivo alla Sapienza.
Started in December 2016, after the earthquake that hit central Italy on 30 October 2016, the restoration led to the structural consolidation of the complex and the recovery of the corridor in the north wing of the building. Designed by Borromini, the corridor, together with the Biblioteca Alessandrina, marked the conclusion of the prestigious building of the Roman university.
The second phase of work is already underway. It includes the adaptation of other areas of the complex and the restoration of the interior of the church of Sant'Ivo.
You can visit the corridor inside the complex during the opening hours of the institute to the public, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9 am to 2 pm, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 am to 6 pm.
