The 17th edition of La Nueva Ola - Spanish and Latin American Film Festival of Rome, an event directed by Iris Martin-Peralta and Federico Sartori, which took place in the Barberini cinema, attracting more than 2000 spectators, has just ended with great success.
The winning film of the Audience Award was awarded to Te estoy amando locamente by Alejandro Marín, with Alba Flores, Alex de la Croix, La Dani and Omar Banana, a film which was highly celebrated. The film, set in Seville in 1977, talks about the birth of the Andalusian homosexual liberation movement, and is a story inspired by true events; the Director Alejandro Marin and screenwriter Carmen Garrido were present in the room to receive the award. Also noteworthy is the sold out record for the brilliant comedy Bajo Terapia by Oscar-winning director Gerardo Herrero, for which an extra screening of the film was included.
A great success with the public was also recorded for the Chilean film Los Colonos by Felipe Gálvez which closed the Festival. The special screening of the film, organized in collaboration with the Embassy of Chile in Italy, certainly presented one of the best films of the latest season of Latin American cinema. The film, winner of the FIPRESCI Award in Un certain regard at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival as well as the Chilean Oscar candidate, has as its central theme the genocide perpetrated against the indigenous Selk'nam people during the colonization campaigns of Tierra del Fuego, at the beginning of 1900.
La Nueva Ola continues from 22 to 25 June in Naples (FOQUS) and from 28 to 30 July in Messina (Horcynus fest). Furthermore, after the summer there will be other stops including the cities of Turin (cinema Baretti), Padua (cinema Lux), Bergamo (cinema Conca verde), to close the season in Bolzano (25-27 November Filmclub).
