The Walking Day 2023 is back again in October, the national event promoted by FederTrek, which encourage the spread of the culture of walking through the direct involvement of citizens, the world of associations and local administrations.
The event, which usually takes place every year on the second Sunday of October, involves the organization of hundreds of initiatives throughout Italy bringing thousands of people to walk not only on the streets of small and large cities such as Rome, Genoa, Florence, Milan and Turin, but also through the streets of wonerful and lesser-known villages. During this day, pedestrians once again become protagonists of the urban environment, reconquering the spaces normally invaded by car traffic all year round, thus demonstrating that another way of moving around and experiencing the city and the towns is possible.
In fact, the action of walking is not only a healthy habit that is good for the body and the spirit, but also and above all a civil commitment, a natural gesture that has the power to trigger a virtuous cycle for a new lifestyle that makes the use of the car is becoming more and more marginal, contributing in this way to sustainable development.
Furthermore, this year, to celebrate this day in Rome, FederTrek offers the urban trek Grande Raccordo Anulare delle Bici, better known as GRAB, a bicycle path used from a totally new point of view: on foot.
