Teatri di Pietra 2023

The Network of Teatri di Pietra, the initiative that has brought live entertainment to some of the most evocative Italian archaeological and monumental sites for over twenty years, is back.

The 2023 season, which involves Lazio, Tuscany, Sicily, Campania and Basilicata regions, starts from the Capital, thanks to the collaboration with the Special Superintendency of Rome, with a rich program of dance, music, theatre and unpublished dramaturgical writings that tell, with classic and contemporary works, the present in places with an extraordinary history.

The tour starts on 26 June in the Villa di Livia with Opra prima, the review of unreleased works for theatre, which opens with Sulle ginocchia di Ananke (On Ananke's knees), stories of real and contemporary women, followed on 27 June by Guerriere in nome di... (Warriors in the name of...), dialogue between Eris, goddess of war, and three female figures, a mother, a daughter and Joan of Arc. Kairos, staged on 28 June, shows the actor telling the moments in which life allows us to take a chance or miss it by a hair's breadth. The event closes on 29 June with L'aquila e l'alabastro (The Eagle and the Alabaster), a dialogue between the emperor Tiberius and Maria di Màgdala.

From 6 July, the event continues in Malborghetto with Erathostenes, which blends dance, theatre and song and invites reflection on community, coexistence, freedom and confrontation. On 7 July, Acarnesis by Aristophanes sees four actors on stage who celebrate the classic comedy in an alternation of games of identity and roles. On 12 July, Gaius Plinius Secundus - L’ultimo viaggio di Plinio il Vecchio (Gaius Plinius Secundus - The last journey of Pliny, the Elder) is an imaginary journey through the hallucinations, hopes, projections and last breaths of the writer and philosopher on the occasion of the two thousandth anniversary of his birth.

The review ends on 13 July with Dante, Sommo Poeta, the original choreographic creation of the Astra Roma Ballet company: an evocative dance journey through the youthful sonnets of the Vita Nova and the famous tercets of the Divine Comedy.
