The dance proposal of the Caracalla Festival 2023 opens with Strictly Gershwin, a joyful and overwhelming musical starring étoiles, principal dancers, soloists, and the Rome Opera Ballet, directed by Eleonora Abbagnato.
The show by choreographer and director Derek Deane, conducted by Michael England, is a tribute to George Gershwin and his music, which was able to tell the hopes and moods of an entire generation in the fantastic Thirties, with Ginger Rogers, Fred Astaire, and the glamor of the Golden Age.
Between fragments of Rhapsody in Blue and others from An American in Paris, passing through the immortal Summertime, classic and modern structure dance alternate with tap dance and ballroom atmospheres.
All in a colossal scenic setting, which sees dancers, musicians, and singers gathered on the same stage. The collaboration with the Laura Biagiotti company for the design and creation of the costumes enhances the evening.
Strictly Gershwin is a new staging of the Roma Opera House.
