One of the most famous musicals of all time is on stage at the Sistina Theater in a new production directed by A.J. Weissbard, and has Serena Autieri as its absolute protagonist, in the role of Eliza Doolittle, the poor flower girl, together with Ivan Castiglione, in the role of Professor Henry Higgins, Manlio Dovì in the role of Colonel Pickering and the talented Gianfranco Phino in the role of Alfred Doolittle. The cast is also enriched by the extraordinary participation of Fioretta Mari, in the role of Mrs. Higgins.
The musical, Frederick Loewe's 1956 masterpiece with a libretto by Alan Jay Lerner, based on George Bernard Shaw's 1913 play Pygmalion. Like Shaw's play, the musical tells of the Cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle who takes lessons from the phonetician Henry Higgins in order to become a real lady and open a shop. All this is the result of a bet between Professor Higgins and Colonel Pickering, made after the professor, during a conversation with his friend, claims to be able to transform any commoner into a full-fledged lady with just a few months of lessons. Unexpectedly, however, Higgins begins to have feelings for the young girl.
Thanks to the visionary direction of an internationally renowned director such as Weissbard, who involves the spectator by immersing him in a suspended and almost dreamlike dimension, to the choreographies, entrusted to the imagination of the international director and choreographer Gianni Santucci, to the music of Maestro Enzo Campagnoli and finally, to the wonderful costumes by Silvia Frattolillo, this work is brought back to us in a new and always exciting light.
