The combination of analog and digital sounds and technology applied to music are nothing new in modern compositions. The German pianist Ralf Schmid, at the Casa del Jazz with his Pyanook, has taken everything to a higher level where this fusion expands and intensifies.
In the past, the German composer had already worked with digital instruments; a profound reflection on his music and the potential of the grand piano, his instrument of choice, encouraged him to use technology to discover new acoustic worlds.
The MiMU Gloves were the perfect solution.
Usually, in acoustic pieces, technology is used in post-production to intervene on existing sounds; Schmid instead uses it in the composition and execution of his music, in which he works with this revolutionary innovation of modern technology.
MiMU Gloves are wireless gloves, presented for the first time by the famous British musician Imogen Heap, through which you can digitally manipulate sound with the gestures of the hands through the use of sensors that convert movement into programmable sound effects.
With Pyanook, Schmid opens new musical horizons; with every movement of the hands and fingers and with every light turn of the wrist, his compositions come to life and bind in a unique and indissoluble way to his body.
Ralf Schmid has collaborated with artists such as Herbie Hancock, Whitney Houston, Daniel Hope, and trumpeter Joo Kraus.
