The Baths of Caracalla are the evocative backdrop for the show dedicated to the women of Puccini, the famous composer that the Caracalla Festival 2024, the summer season of the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, celebrates with an extraordinary programme of events.
On the stage of the Teatro del Portico, in a dialogue of theatre, dance, live music, opera and contemporary circus, a ‘chorus of bodies’ of talented, determined, resilient, ordinary, and real women move in aerial and earthy choreographies, accompanied by Puccini's splendid melodies, performed by the string trio of Irene Dosio, Maria Sandu and Nadia Marino, contaminated by Beatrice Zanin's electronic music, and, sometimes, extracts of text.
Directed and choreographed by Caterina Mochi Sismondi, the performers Elisa Mutto, Sara Frediani, Marta Alba, Iolanda del Vecchio and Rocio Belen Reyes Patricio give life to the characters of Tosca, Madama Butterfly, Manon Lescaut, Turandot, and Mimi, representing their different features and personalities, supporting each other, falling and rising again, in an extraordinary female portrait of opera icons and real women of yesterday, today and tomorrow through a free and captivating dance.
