Sustainability and energy saving are the basis of the message conveyed by the Christmas tree, which this year returns to illuminate Piazza del Campidoglio. But with one peculiarity: you can help make the star shine by pedaling on a bicycle/generator that remains at the foot of the Christmas tree for the entire duration of the holidays.
The tree lights up on Tuesday, 13 December, at 6.30 pm with a symbolic ceremony and the installation of no less than six bicycles in the square to supply the energy necessary for its lighting.
In the saddle, the President of the Capitoline Assembly, Svetlana Celli, promoter of the initiative, the Mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, the Capitoline councilors, and all those who wish to participate in the event.
The tree is an "Abies Nordmanniana" and is more than 6 meters high. It stands on the right side of the square in front of the Cordonata for the occasion. Actor Antonio Giuliani will host the ceremony.
Also present is the Band of the Police Corps of Roma Capitale which performs Christmas songs.
