The splendid ballet in three acts, inspired by the novel of the same name by the Russian poet and writer Aleksandr Puškin, returns to the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma after almost thirty years.
A masterpiece by John Cranko, Onegin was conceived by the famous choreographer and dancer in 1965 and premiered in the spring of the same year at the Staatsoper Stuttgart.
Characterised by a brilliant narration and a powerful emotional intensity, the ballet is an excellent ‘dance drama’ that portrays the tormented love between Evgenij Onegin, a bored aristocrat who rejects the sincere feelings of the young Tatiana, and then regrets his choice when it is too late.
On stage is an extraordinary cast: La Scala's étoile Nicoletta Manni, for the first time at the Costanzi, Rebecca Bianchi and Federica Maine, alternating in the role of Tatiana, Friedemann Vogel, Claudio Cocino and Giacomo Castellana as Onegin, accompanied by the Corps de Ballet and the Orchestra of the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, conducted by Philip Ellis, performing the sumptuous music from Pyotr Il'ič Tchaikovsky's various compositions, arranged and orchestrated by Kurt-Heinz Stolze.
