Israeli Omer Meir Wellber, Music Director of the Volksoper in Vienna and the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, conducts, from the prestigious stage of the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome, Proximity or Closeness, a choreography by Ermanno Sbezzo danced by Eleonora Abbagnato and Jacopo Tissi, to music by Mahler and Schnittke.
Omer Meir Wellber is today one of the most outstanding conductors in both the operatic and orchestral repertoire. Born in Be'er Sheva in 1981, at five, he began studying the accordion and piano.
Since January 2020, he has been Music Director of the Teatro Massimo in Palermo. Since September 2022, of the Volksoper in Vienna.
He has conducted some of the world's most prestigious ensembles, such as the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra National de Lyon, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Orchestra RAI Torino and the Tonhalle Orchestra in Zurich.
In 2017, he published Fear, Risk and Love - Moments with Mozart, and in 2019, his first novel, Die vier Ohnmachten des Chaim Birkner (True and Untrue History of Chaim Birkner, Sellerio 2021).
