Musei in musica 2023

25 November is this year's new edition of Musei in Musica, one of the flagships of Rome's cultural and entertainment programme.

Over the years, the event has conquered an ever-growing audience and recorded record-breaking turnouts. True to its name, the now traditional kermesse does not need too much presentation: as usual, the spaces of the Civic Museums will be filled with notes, rhythms, and harmonies, remaining extraordinarily open until late in the evening, from 8 pm to 2 am (last admission at 1 am).

By purchasing a ticket at the symbolic price of one euro (free for Mic Card holders), you will be able to stroll through the halls of the museums, among imperial busts, Napoleonic relics, or eighteenth-century paintings, visit the current exhibitions and, at the same time, attend a rich programme of concerts and live shows.

Special guests of this edition of Musei in Musica are Francesco Renga, one of the greatest voices on the Italian music scene, and NEK Filippo Neviani, singer and multi-instrumentalist with more than 10 million records sold worldwide. The two artists, returning from a successful tour in theaters in major Italian cities, will give life to an unmissable event at the Museo dell’Ara Pacis, at 8:15 pm. It will be a unique musical intervention in which they will alternate between songs born from their recent partnership and big hits from their repertoire. Tickets for access to the event will be put up for distribution at the Museum starting at 6:45 p.m. on Saturday, 25 November, until all available seats are sold out. 

The Civic Museums involved are the following: Musei Capitolini, Centrale Montemartini, Mercati di Traiano - Musei dei Fori Imperiali, Museo dell’Ara Pacis, Museo di Roma, Museo Napoleonico, Museo di Roma in Trastevere, Museo Pietro Canonica, Musei di Villa Torlonia (Casina delle Civette, Casino Nobile, Serra Moresca), Museo Carlo Bilotti, Museo di scultura antica Giovanni Barracco, Museo Civico di Zoologia, Museo della Repubblica Romana e della memoria garibaldina, Galleria d'Arte Moderna, Museo di Casal de' Pazzi.

There are other significant sites in the city, such as universities, academies, embassies and foreign institutes, exhibition and cultural spaces - which will be exceptionally open in the evening.

Over 50 spaces that remain open, within which it is possible to visit around 50 exhibitions and attend over 100 events, including guided tours and entertainment.

Among the most important events we highlight the extraordinary openings of Vive - Vittoriano and Palazzo Venezia, inside which there will be themed guided tours From Mozart to Rossini with sound, literary and artistic suggestions; or the Archaeological Park of the Colosseum which, thanks to its extraordinary opening of the Cura Iulia, allows you to admire the Copernicus and the Revolution of the World exhibition and attend the concert of the percussionist Luca Rossi. The Capitoline Museums will host numerous performances in some of its most famous spaces such as the Exedra of Marcus Aurelius for example, inside which the Errichetta Preview concert will be held by Officina delle Culture. The extraordinary opening at night of the Jewish Museum of Rome will allow you to attend the concert entitled Jewish music in films with songs taken from various films. We also note the openings of the Roman Aquarium - House of Architecture which hosts the Callas for ever event, a tribute to Maria Callas on the occasion of the centenary of her birth. The opening with guided tours of the MuSA Museum of Musical Instruments will be organized by the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. The Santa Cecilia Conservatory, on the other hand, will host the concert Donna, Musica, Libertà with Barbara Parisi (voice) and Riccardo Biseo (piano) in its headquarters in via dei Greci. The Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone will host the Fabula concert by double bass player Rocco Castellani inside the Aristaios Museum, as well as a program of guided tours by reservation organized by the Musica per Roma Foundation. At Trajan's Markets - Museum of the Imperial Forums, thanks to the commitment of the Sette Note Romane Musical and Cultural Association, visitors will be able to attend, in continuity with the Inclusive Music at Trajan's Markets concert with the performance of the Blind Inclusive Orchestra, the first symphony orchestra which includes blind and visually impaired musicians as well as normally sighted musicians, and that of the Ensemble Music Laboratory of the "Farnesina" Music High School in Rome. Great pop music and the sounds of jazz will be the protagonists of the double show scheduled at the Centrale Montemartini in via Ostiense

Also adhering to the event is the Galleria Nazionale, which will remain open to the public until 10 p.m.; at the symbolic cost of 1 euro (+1 euro for the flooding in Emilia-Romagna) it will be possible to participate in an art-music tour curated by art historian Chiara Stefani and musician and musicologist Claudia Peverini. We also remember that there will be the possibility of visiting unusual places, difficult to access by the general public. This is the case, for example, of the Senate of the Republic or the Chamber of Deputies.

Finally, this year's edition is characterized by the concomitance with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, established in 1999 by the United Nations General Assembly. For this occasion, the artists who perform inside the museums will promote awareness messages by reading or interpreting musical pieces dedicated to the theme.
