Mozart Piano Concerts K 595, K 467, K 466 / Rudolf Buchbinder

The symphony season at the Auditorium Parco della Musica this year dedicates a focus to Mozart with the concerts of Rudolf Buchbinder who, in the dual role of conductor and pianist, conducts the three Concerts n. 27 K 595, no. 21 K 467 and no. 20K 466.

The three are among the most famous Piano Concerts by the Salzburg genius, each with its own characteristics: the more introspective K 595, the melancholic and lyrical K 466 and the more lively and lively K 467.

The Concert K 595 is the last of the concerts for piano and orchestra composed by Mozart. Started in 1788 and then shelved, it was completed in 1791, the year of the composer's death. Performed by Mozart in the same year, in one of his last public appearances in Vienna, it is a concert characterized by an intimacy that is more chamber-like than concert-like. The Concert K 467, however, derives its fame largely from the second Andante movement, which was presented in Vienna in 1785. Like all concerts of classical form, this too is divided into three movements: two fast tempos separated by a slow one and stands out by others for the simple but highly expressive themes. Finally, the Concert K 466, performed and conducted by the Salzburg composer in 1785, tends to involve the listener more emotionally than the others and this is perhaps why it is the only one of Mozart's to remain in the repertoire during the last century.

Rudolf Buchbinder is a faithful guardian of the great piano literature of the classical period and Mozart's music has always been at the centre of his interpretative exploration. Today unanimously recognized as one of the greatest performers of our time, he has been playing all over the world with the most important orchestras and conductors for more than 50 years.
