Like every year, the appointment with The European Week of Sport 2024 - #BeActive is renewed from 23 to 30 September. Launched by the European Commission in 2015 to promote sport, healthy and active lifestyles and, consequently, the physical and mental well-being of European Community citizens, the event is open to everyone.
Inclusion, Wellbeing and Belonging are the central themes of the 2024 edition, the first - Inclusion - underlines that sport must be accessible to everyone, regardless of age, origin, physical fitness, gender, ability or background. The second theme – Wellbeing – indicates that sporting practices are essential to maintain a mens sana in corpore sano, contributing to the improvement of psychophysical well-being. The third and final theme - Belonging - wants to highlight that participating in sporting events strengthens the sense of community, allowing people of different generations and cultures to meet, finding themselves through common values such as respect and solidarity.
Over a thousand events take place throughout Europe during the Week, from yoga courses to cycling competitions, from football matches to swimming competitions. In Rome the main event takes place from 28 to 30 September at the Foro Italico Park, inside the Stadio dei Marmi, completely redeveloped after the Rome 2024 European Athletics Championships. Here, in fact, the BeActive Village will be set up, a multi-sports area which will also be active during the #BeActiveNight, an event involving various locations across Europe and which takes place in a festive atmosphere around the themes of sport and the environment. The latter in particular, in fact, represents one of the most anticipated moments of the Week, encouraging participation and sharing of sporting experiences at a European level.
The Village is animated by around 50 sports organisations, including amateur sports associations (ASD), amateur sports clubs (SSD), national sports federations, associated sports disciplines (DSA), sports promotion bodies (EPS), Charity Associations, gyms, sports clubs, municipalities, associations and other entities involved in the diffusion of sports practice. Inside the Village it is possible to experiment and practice at least 40 sports disciplines for free, with the support of qualified technicians and entertainers, with initiatives open to all and specific areas for vulnerable categories. Finally, we would like to remind you that in Rome, as well as in other Italian cities, activities dedicated to plogging are planned, a practice of Swedish origin which consists of collecting waste found on the street while jogging.
The European Week of Sport involves more and more people and organizations in a process of promoting health and well-being through sport, making the various sporting disciplines increasingly popular.
