Ian Bostridge, Angela Hewitt, Andrei Gavrilov, Nikolai Lugansky, Marc-André Hamelin, Jordi Savall, Lucas Debargue, Gautier Capuçon, Charlie Siem, Giovanni Sollima, the Cremona Quartet are just some of the greatest interpreters of the national and international music scene, protagonists of the 79th Season of the IUC - Istituzione Universitaria dei Concerti.
The rich and varied calendar of concerts at the Aula Magna of La Sapienza Università di Roma offers 36 appointments from October 2023 to May 2024 and programmes ranging from medieval to contemporary music.
From Machaut's Mass of Notre Dame to the baroque arias of Vivaldi and Händel, from the lieder repertoire to the masterpieces of Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann, Chopin, Ravel, Musorgskij, Bartók, Prokof'ev, Stravinskij, Webern, Šostakovič up to our contemporaries with a world premiere by Marcello Filotei and Silvia Colasanti's Requiem performed for the first time in Rome.
But also forays into the Spanish repertoire of ancient music and Italian songwriting from the 17th century to the 1960s and some rare pages by Nino Rota, significant tributes on the centenary of the birth of György Ligeti and Luigi Nono, and an evening with the Arditti Quartet to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of its foundation.
The Rachmaninov cycle continues with Alexander Romanovsky and is joined by a Boccherini evening with Europa Galante.
The 'new generations' feature young but already established musicians such as Ettore Pagano, Javier Comesaña, Lukas Geniušas, and the Leonkoro Quartet.
The Canova Chamber Orchestra conducted by Enrico Saverio Pagano - artists in residence at the IUC - opens the festival on Friday 13th October at 8.30 pm with Beethoven's Fifth and Chopin's Second Concerto with Leonora Armellini at the piano.Complete programme
