Fifties in Rome. La couture anni ’50 (RMX)

Fifties in Rome. La couture anni ’50 (RMX)

Stefano Dominella, honorary president of the Maison Gattinoni, in collaboration with the Accademia del Lusso - an Italian higher education institution which prepares creative and managerial profiles for the fashion and design sectors - presents Fifties in Rome. La couture anni '50s (RMX).

The elegant spaces of the Museum Boncompagni Ludovisi for Decorative Arts, Costume and Fashion of the 19th and 20th centuries host this iconic exhibition that, through the creations of fashion artists such as Carosa, Fernanda Gattinoni, Tiziani, Schuberth, Antonelli, Fabiani, to name a few, recounts the unrepeatable Fabulous Fifties, the Hollywood on the Tiber of the international divas, and the Dolce Vita, years that revolutionised style, influencing all the following decades, consecrated Rome as the cradle of Haute Couture and determined the rise and consolidation of the Made in Italy in the world.

The carefully selected dresses, some of which are on show for the first time, come from Stefano Dominella's historical archive, from the fashion collections of the Boncompagni Ludovisi Museum, and noteworthy private historical archives, and find their ideal setting among the sophisticated rooms and furnishings of the museum's eclectic Roman style of the early 20th century.

Amidst refined fabrics and precious embroideries, Fifties in Rome has created the unmissable opportunity to admire at close quarters the wonders of the creativity of so many fashion geniuses and of that high craftsmanship that the whole world envies us.

Fifties in Rome is also an exhibition-performance whose project involves the high schools of our territory, thanks to the collaboration of students invited to create sketches inspired by the 1950s. The winner of the contest, selected by a commission of experts from among the most talented students, will be offered free enrolment in one of the courses at the Accademia del Lusso in Rome, a prestigious showcase for the world of luxury with venues in Rome's Piazza di Spagna and Milan's Via Montenapoleone.

The Boncompagni Ludovisi Museum is directed by Matilde Amaturo and belongs to the Direzione Musei statali della città di Roma, headed by Massimo Osanna. The exhibition is curated by Stefano Dominella under the patronage of the Assessorato ai Grandi Eventi, Sport, Turismo e Moda del Comune di Roma.
