EUR_Asia is the name of the new route inaugurated at the Museum of Civilizations, dedicated to Asian arts and cultures.
The itinerary, which includes around 100 masterpieces and testimonies, organized into five sections, constitutes the incipit of the progressive permanent reorganization which, by 2026, it will unite and bring back to full public enjoyment both the archaeological and artistic collections of the former National Museum of Oriental Art founded on the initiative of Giuseppe Tucci in 1957, and the ethnographic ones of Asian origin of the former National Prehistoric Ethnographic Museum founded by Luigi Pigorini in 1875.
In EUR_Asia – a play on words between the Eurasian continent and the role of the EUR as the seat of the national museum dedicated to the civilizations and cultures of the world – the works are not set up according to geographical or chronological criteria but are divided into 16 narratives that relate the material culture and the daily or ritual functions of Asian cultures as a whole.
The project also includes an initial in-depth study on the role of restoration and scientific research and a digital brochure available via QR-code which explores in museographic terms the opportunity to question the traditional distinction between East and West.
