Over 4,000 runners from 35 nations were at the start of the 16th edition of the ‘Corsa dei Santi - sponsored by Melinda’, the 10 kilometre race promoted by Missioni Don Bosco.
The challenge is over a distance of 10.2 kilometres (competitive and non-competitive). The start (8.45 a.m.) and finish will be, for both races, in Piazza Pio XII, near St. Peter's Square. From here, the evocative route winds its way through the streets of Rome's historic centre, passing by the ‘Curia of Pompey’, the site of Caesar's assassination, Capitoline Hill Steps, Theatre of Marcellus, Circus Maximus, Arch of Constantine, Colosseum, Altar of the Fatherland, Marcus Aurelius' Column, Piazza del Popolo, Palace of Justice, St. Angel's Castle, and ends along Via della Conciliazione, with a view of St. Peter's Basilica.
Among the elite athletes in the race will be Sofiia Yaremchuck, the CS Army runner who a year ago in Valencia set the best Italian marathon performance in 2:23.16. The 30-year-old of Ukrainian origin has a personal best over 10 kilometres of 32.06 and is the favourite for victory.
In addition to its unique route in the panorama of road races, the Corsa dei Santi is characterised by its solidarity vocation: in fact, also this year the race is combined with a project promoted by Missioni Don Bosco.
The Corsa dei Santi is promoted by Missioni Don Bosco in collaboration with Opera Romana Pellegrinaggi. Organisation by ACSI Italia Atletica under licence from Prime Time Promotions. The Corsa dei Santi is under the patronage of Regione Lazio, Comune di Roma - Assessorato Grandi Eventi, Sport e Turismo, Comitato Olimpico Nazionale Italiano (CONI).
