A narrow, seemingly endless circular staircase – the so called “lumaca di Sant’Andrea” – and 537 steps will take you to the balcony atop the cupola from which the view is superb.
The 136 meters tall cupola was designed by Michelangelo and offers a great view of Piazza San Pietro, Bernini’s colonnade and a complete vision of the city and its surroundings, up to the Castelli Romani and the sea.
From here, Rome unveils its entire beauty, the eternal city is at your feet, with the greatness of its districts alternating to the green of its gardens, cut across by the Tiber and surrounded by the blue looming Colli Albani.
