With the arrival of autumn, the Roman Grape Harvest 2024 also returns to the Botanical Garden of Rome in Trastevere, in a special edition to celebrate the first wine from Vigneto Italia. The event, organized by Luca Maroni, sensory analyst and Francesca Romana Maroni, CEO of Sens Eventi, is a rare opportunity to reclaim the grape harvest as a popular festival, in the heart of one of the most historical districts of the capital.
The event - which for the third consecutive year pays homage to the vine - is free entrance until seats last and, included in the cost of the ticket, gives visitors the opportunity to participate in the festive harvest of the now ripe bunches between songs, dances and traditional Trastevere stornelli. A "country" party, in the open air, involving adults and children, to rediscover the rites linked to the land.
Planted in 2018 by Maroni himself together with the Sapienza University of Rome, the University of Tuscia and the Vivai Cooperativi Rauscedo, the Vigneto Italia is unique: it is in fact the first vineyard in the world that contains 150 varieties of vines in a single place natives from every Italian region. A strip of land therefore, which contains a rich biodiversity cultivated exclusively with biodynamic criteria. It could be defined as a true experiment which, in 2022, produced its first wine called "Somma Sapienza” (“Supreme Wisdom”), vinified white and red, both the result of over 70 different native varieties.
The event also includes educational meetings and workshops for adults and children, all focused on the theme of grapes, wine and fermentation, and the popular treasure hunt in which the whole family can take part.
The biodiversity of the Botanical Garden of Rome is also at the centre of the guided tours held by experts. Among these, the tour of the Japanese Garden is scheduled, with its pond rich in flora and fauna, a visit to the Italian Vineyard and a 60-minute tour of the world through all the countless varieties of plants and flowers from all over the globe present in the Botanical Garden.
