From 19 to 28 March, the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma returns to the city’s churches with its Easter Concerts: eight free performances dedicated to the great tradition of sacred music, featuring the Choir of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, conducted by Ciro Visco, and the Choral Singing School, led by Alberto de Sanctis and Isabella Giorcelli.
The initiative, supported by the Assessorato ai Grandi Eventi, Sport, Turismo e Moda di Roma Capitale, aims to establish an ongoing cultural dialogue with the city’s audiences and presents two programmes:
- For four evenings, from 20 to 27 March, the Choir of the Teatro dell’Opera performs one of the most beloved works in the sacred repertoire, Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem, featuring sopranos Constanza Antunica (20, 25 March) and Marika Spadafino (21, 27 March), and baritones Marco Severin (20, 25 March) and Andrea Jin Chen (21, 27 March). At the piano: Alessia Capoccia. The performances will take place in four churches, from the south-east districts to the coastline: on 20 March at 7.00 pm at the Church of Santi Fabiano e Venanzio (Tuscolano); on 21 March at 7.30 pm at the Church of San Giovanni Battista de Rossi (Appio-Latino); on 25 March at 7.00 pm at the Church of Santa Maria Regina Pacis (Lido di Ostia); and on 27 March at 4.00 pm at the Church of Santi Aquila e Priscilla (Portuense).
- The students of the Choral Singing School, under the direction of Alberto de Sanctis and Isabella Giorcelli, accompanied on the piano by Zenoviia-Anna Danchak, present a programme spanning four centuries of sacred music, performing Salve Regina by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, Stabat Mater by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, Missa sub titulo Sancti Leopoldi MH 837 by Johann Michael Haydn, and Tre Cori Religiosi by Gioachino Rossini (La Fede, La Speranza, La Carità). These intense and solemn works, united by the spiritual depth of the Easter season, will be heard in the churches of Santa Maria Madre della Misericordia (Prenestino-Labicano, 19 March at 7.00 pm), Sant’Ambrogio (Aurelio, 22 March at 7.30 pm), San Romano Martire (Pietralata, 26 March at 7.30 pm) and San Giovanni della Croce (Colle Salario, 28 March at 7.30 pm).
