Built in 2004, the church is the seat of the parish of the same name established in 1973 and entrusted to the Roman diocesan clergy. Until 2004 the parish was housed in some premises in via delle Cave di Pietralata n. 43/45.It is dedicated to Saint Romano martyr, commemorated on August 9.The parish was erected on February 6, 1973 with the decree of the cardinal vicar Ugo Poletti Neminem fugit. Its territory was taken from that of the parish of Sant'Atanasio.Since February 14, 2015, the cardinal title of the same name has insisted on it.The church is the work of the architect Igino Pineschi. It has an almost rectangular plan, the main hall has a single nave; on the right is the chapel of the Blessed Sacrament, with a trapezoidal plan, while the adjacent confessional area has a circular plan. The façade is characterised by a glass window framed in a massive portal that serves as a covered entrance.A metal pylon acts as a bell tower, placed on a reinforced concrete entablature that covers a gate giving access to the courtyard.Inside, the metal structures that support the roof are visible, starting from a continuous reinforced concrete beam, resting on four brick-covered walls. The altar, the tabernacle and the pulpit are in travertine. The apse is embellished with a mosaic, the work of Marko Ivan Rupnik and the Aletti Centre, which depicts Saint Romanus in prison (symbolised by a cross) receiving baptism from Saint Lawrence: through baptism he is associated with the majesty of Jesus, who covers him with his cloak in a larger scene, in which Jesus receives the adoration of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saint John the Baptist. The area of the baptismal font is located to the left of the presbytery.
