Born in Sardinia in 1997, the event, now in its 29th edition, represents one of the most important events in Italy dedicated to the promotion and enhancement of cultural heritage, involving 800 monuments, 87 cities, 19 regions; a way of celebrating the Italian cultural heritage with a widespread event that crosses the entire country, opening the doors of abbeys, castles, churches, ethnographic museums and hidden and little-known places. This year's edition is presented under the title of Where everything is possible, an invitation to look with new eyes at our extraordinary cultural heritage, to generate ever stronger links between past and future. Since the first edition, there have been over four million guided tours, conducted by 160,000 students and 60,000 volunteers, mostly students of all levels, who have described over 2,063 monuments in more than 170 municipalities, first in Sardinia alone, then over the years also in Piedmont, Emilia-Romagna, Puglia, Lombardy and Lazio.
The monuments open in Rome and Lazio on May 23, 24 and 25 will be: the Catacombs of Saints Marcellinus and Peter, the Underground Basilica of Porta Maggiore, the Museum of Urban Art on Migrations and the Warehouse Office Excavations Eastern Management System Superintendency Capitoline. On the program is also the itinerary entitled In the footsteps of the ancient Romei: discovering the past and future of the Casilino District.
The 2025 edition is held under the patronage of the Senate of the Republic, the Chamber of Deputies, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Tourism, the Sardinia Region and Anci Nazionale. For the fourth year, it also enjoys the patronage of the European Parliament. The project is financed by the Ministry of Labor and Social Policies.
