From 23 to 25 April, Roma Capitale will celebrate for the second consecutive year the liberation of Italy from Nazi-Fascism with three days of events, with free admission, to pay tribute to the Italian Resistance and to remember and share values such as democracy, freedom and equality that, between 1943 and 1945, animated thousands of women and men who fought alongside the Allies.
Festa della Resistenza di Roma 2024 is promoted by the Department of Culture of Roma Capitale, with the organization of Zètema Progetto Cultura, the coordination of the Department of Cultural Activities, the Libraries of Rome, the House of Memory and History, and the collaboration of Rai Teche and Siae. Some 80 events, including lectures, meetings, performances, concerts, screenings and exhibitions, are scheduled to take place in various locations in the city’s Fifth and Seventh Municipalities, including symbolic sites of the Roman Resistance – the Piazza Coperta and Spazio Pagoda in Arco di Travertino, Casa della Cultura e dello Sport “Silvio Di Francia” in Villa De Sanctis, Villa Lazzaroni and the Cittadini del Mondo Library, the Quadraro, Tor Pignattara, Centocelle, Alessandrino and Pigneto neighbourhoods. Historians, scholars, journalists and artists who will tell the public about one of the highest moments in Italian history include Corrado Augias, Alessandro Barbero, Umberto Gentiloni, Ezio Mauro, Lucia Ceci, Davide Conti, Marco Mondini, Michela Ponzani, Benedetta Tobagi, Ascanio Celestini, Liliana Cavani and many others.
The program of initiatives was devised together with scholars Davide Conti and Michela Ponzani and thanks to discussions with the main associations engaged daily in Rome in the field of the history of the Resistance and anti-fascism.
