On 9 May 1950, the press was summoned to the Quai d'Orsay, headquarters of the Foreign Ministry in Paris, to witness a memorable communication. Then French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman, in collaboration with his friend and advisor Jean Monnet, outlined his idea to create a new form of political cooperation for Europe that would make war between European nations unthinkable.
Schuman's ambition was to create a European institution that would pool and manage coal and steel production. The following year, a treaty was signed giving birth to such a body.
Since 1985, the French politician's historic declaration is the birth certificate of the European Union, and each year, heads of state and government celebrate 9 May as Europe Day.
To celebrate it, the European Parliament, the European Commission, the City of Rome, and the Embassy of France in Italy await you on 9 May at the event concert to reinforce peace and unity in Europe.

This year, Europe Day witnesses the closeness of the European Union to the Ukrainian people and remembers David Sassoli, President of the European Parliament, who died last January.
