Organised by the Special Superintendency of Rome and CCN/Aterballetto, with the Rome Opera House Dance School and the Ravenna Manifestazioni Foundation joining as artistic partners this year, Caracalla Danza is a festival dedicated to the best of international dance, set against the monumental architecture of an extraordinary location.
The 2026 edition will open with a new feature: “Decouverte: Caracalla” (26-28 June), a site-specific initiative curated by Diego Tortelli featuring dancers and a cellist who, together with groups of visitors/spectators, will explore the most famous, as well as the secret and hidden, spaces of the archaeological complex, from the Water Mirror to the Mithraeum.
The program will continue on 30 June with “Impromptus. Arias, dances and improvisations”, a project by CCN/Aterballetto and the Ravenna Foundation dedicated to artistic experimentation, featuring short performances that blend movement, sound and space, fostering a fluid, spontaneous and intense relationship between dance and music.
The festival’s closing program (from 3 to 5 July) will feature three works by CCN/Aterballetto. “Preludio” by Diego Tortelli (a work for five dancers built around songs by singer-songwriter Nick Cave), “An echo, a wave” by Philippe Kratz and “Bliss” by Johan Inger, a long-standing signature piece of CCN/Aterballetto, are set to be performed on the stage of the Water Mirror.
