Housed since 1911 in the monumental building designed by architect Cesare Bazzani, near Villa Borghese, the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea houses around 20,000 works (paintings, drawings, sculptures and installations, design objects, films and photographs) in its rooms and endless storage areas. The art works represent the main avant-garde and artistic movements from the 19th century to the present day: from Neoclassicism to Impressionism and Divisionism, from Futurism and Surrealism to the so-called Roman School, Pop Art and Arte Povera.
To offer visitors further opportunities to explore its vast and diverse collection and admire masterpieces by great Italian and international artists (Vincent van Gogh, Gustav Klimt, Giacomo Balla, Antonio Canova, Andy Warhol, Giorgio de Chirico, Maurizio Cattelan and Cy Twombly, among others), until 11 December the Gallery will be open to the public on Thursday evenings from 7 pm to 10 pm, with a reduced admission fee of €9. For the months of November and December, the special evening openings are scheduled for 6, 20 and 27 November, and 4 and 11 December.
During special openings, in addition to the permanent collection, visitors can also view the current exhibitions: Bounded and Unbounded. The Art of Liu Youju (until 17 November) and Ceroli Totale, a monographic exhibition dedicated to Mario Ceroli that traces seventy years of the sculptor’s work through twenty sculptures and installations.
