From July 1st to August 31st, evenings at Santa Severa Castle are enlivened by a rich calendar of events, including concerts, open-air cinema, theater, book presentations, showcooking, and sports.
Every evening, from Tuesday to Sunday, the castle welcomes the public with events suitable for all ages and tastes. Music is undoubtedly the star of the evenings, with a variety of offerings ranging from opera with La Traviata, to jazz with the Rita Marcotulli Trio and Stefano Di Battista, from pop with Neri per Caso, Alan Sorrenti, Anna Tatangelo, and Ron, to hits by Edoardo Vianello, and tributes to great artists such as Franco Battiato, Dire Straits, and Queen. Special events include Gino Saladini's Recital, Marco Sensi's piano melodies, concerts by the Xylon Orchestra, which performs famous soundtracks, the Blind Inclusive Orchestra (BIO), the first inclusive symphony orchestra featuring blind and visually impaired musicians, the B-AND Wind Orchestra, and the traditional summer concert by the State Police Band.
Theater is also present, with performances ranging from comedy to musical theater, featuring artists such as Max Giusti, Anna Mazzamauro, Giovanni Scifoni, Edoardo Leo, and Marco Marzocca. Unmissable are also the dance events, including Romeo and Juliet by the Balletto di Roma, inspired by Shakespeare's tragedy, and the Grand Gala of the Dancing Stars, under the artistic direction of Kristian Cellini.
But at the centre of the event is undoubtedly the open-air cinema, which, in collaboration with the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia – Cineteca Nazionale and Titanus, offers screenings every Tuesday and Wednesday of an all-female series entitled The Divas of Titanus. This major event is a dual tribute to both Titanus, Italy's first film production and distribution company and one of the oldest in the world, and to Italy's world-renowned divas. The protagonists of this all-female chapter are: Anna Magnani, Gina Lollobrigida, Sophia Loren, Marisa Allasio, Sylva Koscina, Giovanna Ralli, Franca Valeri, Valeria Moriconi, Monica Vitti, Claudia Cardinale, Stefania Sandrelli, Catherine Spaak, Eleonora Giorgi, Ornella Muti, Giuliana De Sio, Milena Vukotić. Each screening is preceded by a panel discussion with actresses, actors, directors, and critics.
Finally, there are also corners dedicated to gastronomy and tradition, with a showcooking by Alessandro Circiello, a bridge tournament, and activities for children and families, including shows such as Hansel and Gretel, Zeus, circus and juggling performances by Café Rouge, and the shows Rime insaponate and Giro della Piazza.
All events are free, subject to availability, unless otherwise noted. Reservations are required, even for free events.
The summer program was promoted by the Lazio Region and organized by the in-house company LAZIOcrea, with the artistic direction of ATCL – Circuito Multidisciplinare del Lazio.
