From 24 October 2025 to 3 May 2026, the Scuderie del Quirinale hosts a prestigious exhibition that explores the ancient and fascinating Egyptian civilisation through a selection of masterpieces from Egypt's most important museum sites.
Curated by Dr Tarek El Awady, Treasures of the Pharaohs is an extraordinary and unique event to admire exceptional works and artefacts, including some displayed for the first time in Italy: it is indeed the second time that Egypt has authorised such an impressive exhibition after the one held in the early 2000s at Palazzo Grassi in Venice.
The exhibition path winds through six thematic sections, telling about a timeless civilisation - the divine role of the pharaohs, social organisation, spirituality, rituals of the afterlife and the most recent archaeological discoveries - with 130 masterpieces on loan from the most renowned Egyptian museums, such as the Egyptian Museum in Cairo and the Luxor Museum, joined by the contribution of the Egyptian Museum in Turin with a precious artefact.
The result of a prestigious collaboration between Italy and Egypt celebrating the value of cultural diplomacy, the exhibition traces the fundamental phases of Egyptian civilisation, from its origins to the golden age of the great pharaohs of the New Kingdom and the Third Intermediate Period. The works on display include the monumental sculpture of the Triad of Menkaure (Old Kingdom), the golden sarcophagus of Queen Ahhotep (New Kingdom), the Necklace of Queen Ahhotep with Golden Flies, the golden funerary mask of Amenemope, and the golden sarcophagus of Thuya, grandmother of pharaoh Akhenaten, the gold funerary cover of pharaoh Psusennes I (Third Intermediate Period), the statues of Sennefer, Ramses VI and Thutmose III, together with royal jewellery, everyday objects and sarcophagi decorated with sacred symbols.
The exhibition also focuses on the ‘Golden City’, a settlement dating back to the reign of Amenhotep III and Akhenaten, rediscovered thanks to an exceptional archaeological excavation, whose artefacts offer a new perspective on Egyptian society, daily life and customs of the artisans serving the court, who, with their mastery, contributed to building history.
Treasures of the Pharaohs, accompanied by a catalogue curated by Dr Zahi Hawass, is also enriched by a programme of events, including lectures, guided visits and educational workshops for adults and children to deepen knowledge of Egyptian culture through an accessible and exciting experience.
