Rome, tourism in August is record-breaking

Foro Romano
desde 25 Septiembre 2024 hasta 31 Diciembre 2024

5% more visitors than last year: Rome is the undisputed queen of August tourism and the city with the highest growth in foreign tourist arrivals in 2024. Among these, the stars and stripes stand out, attracted to Rome for its immeasurable beauty, but also for its rich and varied offer of great musical, sporting and cultural events. These are tourists, who also choose to stay in the city longer than the canonical three days of past years, thus increasing the average stay in Roman accommodation facilities by up to four days.

It must be said, then, that during the week of Ferragosto (August bank holiday), despite the oppressive heat of this summer, Rome was a popular destination for tourists and saw 611,250 arrivals, + 5.86% compared to 2023, and 1,623,200 presences, + 4.95% compared to last year. Moreover, compared to the other major capitals of the old continent, it is the one that has grown the most in terms of tourism with + 45.2%, again compared to 2023 (London + 32.1%, Vienna + 30.6%, Prague + 26%).

These are important numbers if we consider that, in view of the Jubilee in 2025, Rome is the protagonist of a complete restyling, thanks to the funds coming from the PNRR and the funds allocated for the long-awaited religious solemnity, which is expected to attract around 30 million pilgrims.
