Four evenings with free admission dedicated to the epic poem written by Dante Alighieri, the preeminent work of Italian literature and one of the greatest works of world literature. As part of the program of celebrations organized for the Jubilee 2025, Roma Capitale supports the two-year project “La commedia di Dante per San Pietro - Dante’s Comedy for St. Peter’s” promoted by the Compagnia Teatro Drammatico directed by Franco Ricordi, offering a new and unprecedented “Lectura Dantis” in the presence of the majesty of St. Peter's Basilica.
Philosopher, actor, director, artistic director and essayist, Franco Ricordi has been working on Dante's text for years. Since 2015 he has been one of the leading interpreters of the Divine Comedy, and his performance readings have been a great success with audiences both in Italy and on numerous international tours. The project presented on the occasion of the Jubilee benefits from the patronage of the Dicastery for Evangelization and includes an equipollent synthesis of the three canticles, starting with Inferno and continuing in 2025 with Purgatory and Paradise. It is a new reading of Dante’s work, in a place without additional sets or acoustic effects, that restores to the audience all the lyrical, dramatic and philosophical power of the supreme poet.
The opening night is introduced and moderated by journalist Lorena Bianchetti and features conductor Maestro Rosadini on viola.
