Mausoleo "La Celsa"

On the top of the Saxa Rubra cliff, along the Via Flaminia, emerges a mausoleum with an upper earthen tumulus (called the Celsa tomb) scenically connected to an exedra and a cistern, perhaps to create a monumental fountain (nymphaeum); in the Middle Ages, this building was adapted as a fortress, to control, with Castel Giubileo, the Tiber valley at the gates of Rome. A little further on is a group of rock tombs (1st century B.C. - 1st century A.D.) with remains of wall decoration, niches and niches for the deposition of cinerary urns (columbaria), attributable to servants or freedmen of the Ostoria family to whom the large mausoleum may refer. Further on, an imposing kiln waste was discovered with malcotta ceramics produced in the first two centuries of the empire, coming from an artisan plant active near the Tiber. The finds from the archaeological area are kept in the Museo del casale Malborghetto.
