Natale di Roma 2026

A rich programme of free cultural events marks the 2779th Birthday of Rome, featuring history, art, presentations, themed itineraries, guided tours and live music in the city’s squares. From the spaces of the Musei Civici to the Palazzo Senatorio in Campidoglio, the beating heart of the city’s public life, everything is set for the anniversary of the foundation of the Eternal City.

On 21 April, music takes centre stage in the celebrations, with a collective participatory moment beginning simultaneously at 5.30 pm across various locations in the historic centre, featuring the Bande musicali delle Forze Armate. Piazza del Campidoglio hosts the traditional concert by the Banda della Polizia locale di Roma Capitale; the Scalinata di Trinità dei Monti features the Banda dell’Esercito Italiano; Piazza San Silvestro, the Banda della Marina Militare; Piazza Pia, the Banda dell’Aeronautica Militare; Piazza di San Lorenzo in Lucina, the Banda dell’Arma dei Carabinieri; Piazza di Pietra, the Banda della Polizia di Stato; and Piazza di S. Ignazio, the Banda della Polizia Penitenziaria.

At Piazza del Campidoglio, another special initiative takes place at 4.30 pm, 5.15 pm, 6.00 pm and 6.45 pm: the Palazzo Senatorio will be exceptionally open for free visits to the Aula Giulio Cesare. Groups of up to 30 participants will enter via the ingresso di Sisto IV, near the column bearing the Lupa Capitolina (on via San Pietro in Carcere). Expert guides will be present in the Aula Giulio Cesare to provide brief insights into the history of the Palazzo Senatorio, which has housed the Comune di Roma since 1143, and the function of the assembly hall. Participation is free of charge, subject to mandatory booking by calling 060608 from 10.00 am on Friday 17 April.

Guided tours within the participating Musei Civici – including the Museo di Casal de’ Pazzi, Mercati di Traiano - Museo dei Fori Imperiali, Museo Pietro Canonica, Museo di Scultura Antica Giovanni Barracco, Galleria d’arte Moderna, Museo di Roma in Trastevere, and the Museo di Roma a Palazzo Braschi – are free of charge, subject to the purchase of a museum ticket at the current rates. Free admission to the Musei Civici of Roma Capitale is available to all residents of Rome and the Metropolitan City.
