The Teatro Olimpico hosts Celeste Armonia is a poetic journey through time, space and the spirit of China in its most authentic form. It is not simply a dance performance, but an immersive experience that celebrates the pursuit of perfection, beauty and universal balance. On stage, a vision unfolds in which the grace of movement becomes story, memory and myth, reflecting the Taoist cosmogony whereby all things arise from the One and ultimately return to it, within an endless and harmonious cycle.

Chinese classical dance, with its extraordinarily rich and symbolic vocabulary, lies at the heart of this artistic project. Fans, swords, flowing sleeves and coloured ribbons are not mere stage elements, but narrative instruments that amplify gesture and reveal its deeper meaning. Every movement is charged with intention, every posture engages in dialogue with music and space, creating a visual language of remarkable elegance and evocative power.

Founded in 1987 as a company of excellence, the Beijing Academy Chinese Classical Dance Company is the result of decades of study and reconstruction of traditional choreographic forms. The work of the Beijing Dance Academy has transformed ancient ritual and theatrical dances into an autonomous and contemporary expression, inspired both by the purity of classical ballet and by the fluidity of body rhythm, as well as the discipline of Chinese martial arts. Its guiding principle, “bringing forth the new through the past”, translates into a harmonious fusion of technical rigour and creative freedom.

The performance unfolds in two parts, each devoted to different dimensions of traditional Chinese aesthetics and thought. The choreography alternates moments of intense lyricism with scenes of striking dynamism: the contemplative elegance of the moon, a symbol of desire and perfection, converses with the heroic strength of emperors and warriors; spring dances associated with rites celebrating nature’s rebirth stand in contrast to mystical and philosophical visions inspired by Yin and Yang, infinity and the eternal cycle of life.

Particularly evocative are the tableaux inspired by ink painting, classical poetry and symbolic figures from Chinese culture, such as the solitary crane, emblem of the free and detached scholar, or Guanyin of the Thousand Arms, the embodiment of compassion and universal mercy. Each dance is a fragment of history brought to life, a moving fresco capable of awakening deep and timeless emotions.
