Beyond the veil. The Veiled Christ by Albino Sirsi exhibited in the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Prati, Rome for Easter 2025. Beyond the Veil is a project about one of the most classic subjects in art: the deposition of Christ from the Cross. On the occasion of Easter 2025.The work restores, in all its drama and concreteness, the image of the lifeless body of Christ, freshly removed from the cross and laid on the bare stone, of the Son of God who was not saved from death but gave his life to the end for our salvation, according to the project's creator Fr Walter Insero. The work was carved from a single block of white Carrara marble, weighing seven tons, and sculpted entirely by hand using only a hammer and chisel, without the use of electric tools. The statue is two and a half metres long and one and a half metres wide, weighing three tons. It was created over a period of six years in the countryside of Campi Salentina, the artist's place of residence. It was finished in May 2022 and is presented to the public for the first time on Sunday 13 April 2025 in Rome, during the 12.30 pm mass and with the inauguration at 4.30 pm. During the installation, one can listen to the piece Panta rei composed especially for the work by maestro Giancarlo Cappello. Sirsi's Veiled Christ is exhibited at the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Prati, a happy and rare example of neo-Gothic in Rome.
