The date of birth of the Parish of St Pius X at Balduina is to be found in the Decree of Establishment issued on 28 September 1957 in the name of Pope Pius XII and signed by the Vicar H.E. Card Clemente Micara to meet the needs of an ever-growing community of the faithful who were settling in the new neighbourhood.
The major development of the district took place between 1950 and 1960 by the Sogene - Immobiliare company; before that, buildings had already existed in the 1930s and 1940s on part of Viale delle Medaglie d'Oro, the lower part of Viale Tito Livio and Via Lucilio and Via Cecilio Stazio. The district takes its name from a ditch that runs through the Balduina (already mentioned in an 18th century document), from the name of the agricultural estate of Balduino del Monte (16th century), but it was between the 1931 Master Plan and that of 1965 that the area developed. In 1956, the square was completed and the church (dedicated to Pius X, sanctified in 1954) is in the basement of the current building, where the theatre and crypt are now located, while waiting for the part above to be built. The parish territory borders the parishes of S. Paola Romana and S. Maria Stella Mattutina.
The church was designed by Arch. Alberto Ressa and was built by the Impresa Sogene. The present building with its altar was consecrated on 30 April 1961; the building has been enriched and embellished over the years by a beautiful Organ by the Tamburini Company, a terracotta Stations of the Cross by the sculptor R. Vistoli, a Crucifix by the artist R. Vistoli, and a Crucifix by the sculptor S. Maria Stella Mattino. Vistoli, a bronze Crucifix on the high altar (by Morbiducci) and a bronze Madonna and Child by sculptor Franzini. The parish was full of young couples and children who moved from the more central areas of the city or came from other regions. Co-operatives of magistrates, military personnel, journalists and engineers grew up next to the buildings of the Immobiliare.
