The locality of Giustiniana, once a post station, is located between the 13th and 14th kilometres of the Via Cassia, at the point where the Via Trionfale joins it. The name comes from the ancient Giustiniani family who owned the estates of two ancient villages of which evidence remains in the Torre delle Cornacchie and the Saracen tower. Old farmhouses, towers and villas can still be found in the area.
Next to the Casale La Giustiniana, on which the coat of arms of the Boncompagni family is affixed, is the small church of the Immacolata, now a national monument. At one time, when the popes left or returned to Rome, they would stop there to change their robes.
The Casale Buonricovero, with an incorporated medieval turret, and the Ospedaletto Giustiniani, which also preserves a watchtower, recall, in their place names, the presence in this area of the Ospedale S. Angelo founded in the Middle Ages by Francesco dei Tartari.
La Giustiniana was an ancient chaplaincy; the festive chaplain officiated precisely in the little church of the Immaculate Conception.
At the end of the 19th century, the religious service was combined with that of La Storta; then, in 1908, entrusted to the Pia Opera Agro Romano and, thirty years later, to the Sons of Don Orione, who held it until 1954.
When the Cathedral of La Storta was erected as a parish, La Giustiniana found itself part of that territory; but on 19 March 1955, it was elevated to an autonomous curate vicariate and, in October, was itself elevated to a parish, under the title of the Immaculate Conception (legally recognised on 31 August 1956).
In the years that followed, the current parish church was built, equipped with a rectory house and various rooms for the conduct of various parish activities.
Within the parish area, there are several Religious Houses and two Retirement Homes (O.N.PI. and FF.SS. Pensioners), all with their own Chaplain. The La Castelluccia complex (comprising a 16th-century farmhouse, which incorporated a medieval tower), is a Chaplaincy dependent on La Giustiniana.
On 8 December 1955, the parish Blessed Virgin Mary Immaculate celebrated the 40th anniversary of its foundation; forty years of ecclesial life aimed at building communion in participation and co-responsibility through a constant commitment to witnessing charity, formation and communication. A journey during which each stretch of road is linked to a name.
