It was built between 1987 and 1988 to a design by architect Angelo Polesello.
The church is a parish church, established by Cardinal Vicar Ugo Poletti on 1 October 1983 and whose first parish priest was Don Andrea Santoro, who was murdered in Turkey on 5 February 2006.
The church was visited by Pope John Paul II on 15 March 1992.
The church presents the same pattern found in other Roman churches, such as Our Lady of Coromoto or San Damaso al Gianicolense. In fact, it has a square plan: the entrance is in one corner, while the altar is located in the opposite corner. This arrangement allows total visibility of the altar no matter where you are in the church. The church houses a series of modern icons, made according to ancient canons. The high altar is in an elevated position thanks to a predella made of rough stone. A polychrome stained glass window forms the backdrop to the chancel.
