It is located within the fourth tower of the Aurelian wall from Porta San Giovanni. The oratory was located on the lower floor, while on the upper floor stayed the hermit. The walls had frescoes probably dating back to C. XIV, which now are housed in the Museum of the Basilica of the Holy Cross of Jerusalem. Scholars speculate that the oratory was used as a jail for some time, since it is also often remembered as the prisons of St Margarita. Attended by middle class people as a place of worship it was closed for collapses, then restored and reopened to the public.
